Slack to Linear: Create Linear Issues from Slack Automatically
Create Linear issues from Slack conversations automatically, without manual copy-pasting or ticket creation. Here's how teams are doing it.
If your team uses Linear for project tracking and Slack for day-to-day communication, you already know the gap between them.
A bug gets reported in a Slack thread. An engineer mentions a needed refactor in a DM. A PM describes a feature change in a channel during a quick discussion. All of that context lives in Slack, and none of it automatically becomes a Linear issue.
So someone has to do the translation manually: copy the message, open Linear, create an issue, write the title, add context, assign it, and file it in the right project. Every single time.

The Native Slack + Linear Integration
Linear has a native Slack integration. Here’s what it does out of the box:
- Issue notifications. Get notified in Slack when Linear issues are created, updated, or commented on.
- Unfurl Linear links. When someone pastes a Linear issue URL into Slack, it expands to show the issue details.
- Create issues from Slack messages. You can right-click any Slack message, select “Create Linear Issue,” and a form pops up where you fill in the details.
That last one is the most relevant if you want to turn Slack conversations into Linear issues. It works, but notice the key phrase: “fill in the details.” You still have to write the title, choose the team, set the priority, and decide which project it belongs to.
It’s faster than switching to Linear manually. But it’s still a manual step that depends on someone remembering to do it.
The Problem with Click-to-Create Integrations
The native integration and most third-party Slack-to-Linear tools work the same way: they require a human to initiate the action.
That means:
- Things get missed when everyone assumes someone else will file the ticket
- The person who files it may not have full context on priority or scope
- It still takes time, just less time per issue
- If a conversation spans multiple messages, you’re often creating an incomplete issue from a single message
